Inclusive and Integrated Multi-Hazard Risk Management and Engagement of Volunteers to INCREASE Societal Resilience in Times of Changing Climates

INCREASE (2021-2025) - is a joint project (with 12 German and 11 Iranian partners) and funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education (BMBF). The project aims at contributing to Iran's short-term disaster preparedness, long-term strategic planning, and overall disaster resilience by bridging the gaps between theoretical knowledge, strategies, disaster management plans, capacities, and actual practices related to multiple natural hazards. INCREASE focuses on the two main demands: (A) an integrated analysis and assessment approach to natural hazards, risks, vulnerabilities, and disaster resilience; and (B) an integrated management approach to emergencies and disasters.
IGG contributes to INCREASE project by developing an innovative and practice-oriented approach for translating the resilience concept into urban development and planning to support disaster risk reduction and management. To this end, the project of IGG will focus on delivering the following solutions:
- A theoretical framework for urban resilience in the context of climate and natural hazards under rapid urbanization dynamics to conceptualize the interactions between different urban elements and provide insights for characterizing urban resilience
- A place-based operationalizing framework to measure the resilience conceptual framework through the development of resilience composite index
- Conceptualizing and contextualizing of harnessing Volunteered Geographic Information toward transformative resilience and identifying its opportunities and challenges in support of participatory e-planning
- Pathways and processes to foster mitigation, adaptation, and transformation in the planning processes and tools
